Public Service Obligation - Anglesey Airport
Public Service Obligation

The service between Maes Awyr Môn / Anglesey Airport and Cardiff is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government through a system called a Public Service Obligation (PSO).

A PSO refers to the provision of a transport route which would not normally be commercially viable at the outset. The air route between North and South Wales falls into this category.

PSOs are governed by European Union rules on the size of aircraft, service timetables, and the maximum fare paid.

The Assembly Government gave the Anglesey scheme its backing after a 2004 consultation found there was a strong need for a north - south service and that the Anglesey - Cardiff route would be the most viable. The new air service will be subsided for three years and commenced on May 8th 2007.
